Russia has warned that they will respond should the US station nuclear weapons in the UK amid a growing threat of war with Moscow.

The Telegraph reported that Russia has claimed the US will station nuclear weapons in the Baltic states and Poland.

Gennady Gatilov, Moscow’s permanent representative to the United Nations said on Monday that they are monitoring America’s plans to deploy nuclear weapons in the UK.

Gatilov said, “We are talking, perhaps, about the reactivation of an air base with American nuclear weapons in Great Britain.

There is also talk about the possibility of sending nuclear weapons to the Baltic states, to Poland. All this creates a tense situation.

US warned they could be ‘destroyed’ in ‘one hour’ by Russia in a nuclear attack

“We are monitoring how developments are going in this direction. Of course, if this is so, Russia will be forced to react to this accordingly.

The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, “It remains a longstanding UK and NATO policy to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons at a given location.”

Last autumn there were reports that the US could station nuclear weapons in the UK, Russia warned that this would be seen as an “escalation.”

State-run news agency Tass reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “If this happens, it will be treated by us as an escalation, which will lead to the exact opposite of achieving the pressing task of removing all US nuclear weapons from Europe.”

Last week it was reported by The Telegraph that the US are planning to station nuclear weapons at an RAF air base “three times” the power of the Hiroshima bomb.

the US nuclear warheads will be stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk under the plans.

The Telegraph reported that Pentagon documents have revealed there are contracts in place that shows “the US intends to place nuclear warheads three times the strength of the Hiroshima bomb at the air base.”

The Telegraph reported, “Unredacted documents on the US department of defence’s procurement database reveal plans for a ‘nuclear mission’ that will take place ‘imminently’ at RAF Lakenheath.”

The nuclear warheads are reported to be B61-12 gravity bombs, which is a low to intermediate-yield strategic and tactical nuclear weapon that features a two-stage radiation implosion and it can be deployed by a B-52 Stratofortress and various other warplanes.

The newspaper has said the deployment is part of a NATO programme to “develop and upgrade nuclear sites” as a direct result of Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
