A Russian operated ship known as the Ruby is carrying 20,000 tonnes of highly explosives ammonium nitrate and the damaged vessel is anchored close to the Kent coast.

The Russian operated MV Ruby is close to London and is in the English Channel and is a few miles from the Thames Estuary.

Earlier this week the Russian operated vessel the Danish authorities refused the ship entry into the Baltic Sea and has since travelled south.

In 2020 the Lebanese capital witnessed an explosion that looked like a nuclear bomb had blown up, this was just 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate which killed more than 200 and injured over 6,000 people.

The blast of 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was felt as far as Cyprus and Syria which is more than 200km away.

The Marine Traffic site says the MV Ruby is heading for Malta, but a spokesperson for the Maltese Transport Ministry said the Russian operated ship will not be allowed to dock with the highly explosive cargo on board.

They said in a statement, “The ship will only be allowed to port in Malta if it empties the cargo, if not, it will not be allowed to enter Maltese territorial waters.”
