Samsung‘s next foldable might actually give you a smaller main screen in exchange for something more useful. The Galaxy Wide Fold will reportedly pack a 7.6-inch inner display when it arrives, according to a new leak by Digital Chat Station on Weibo. That puts it slightly under the upcoming Z Fold 7, which is expected to measure 8 inches when you unfold it.

The device reportedly adopts a 4:3 aspect ratio, moving away from the tall and narrow design of current book-style foldables.

The phone is also said to pack a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a dual-cell battery landing around 4,800mAh. It’s expected to arrive in July or August alongside Samsung’s next-generation foldables, giving you another option if you have been waiting for a foldable that feels better in your hand when it’s closed.

Why wider beats taller this time

Samsung appears to be betting that a wider shape beats a taller screen. The 7.6-inch main display comes in slightly under the Z Fold 7’s expected 8-inch panel, but the proportions are what really stand out here. That 4:3 ratio mimics a tablet more than a phone, and that difference could matter every time you use it.

Software hints suggest this thing is real and further along than just a concept. Animations spotted in One UI 9 apps reportedly show the Wide Fold’s opening mechanism and selfie camera cutouts on both displays. That kind of leak usually means Samsung is deep into development and preparing for a launch.

Flagship power inside that wider frame

Under the hood, the Wide Fold isn’t cutting corners to achieve that wider design. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset would put it in flagship territory alongside the Z Fold 7, so you are not sacrificing performance for the new shape.

Battery life is always the big question with foldables, and the numbers here look solid. The tipster describes a dual-cell setup with rated capacities of 2,267mAh and 2,393mAh, adding up to around 4,800mAh typical capacity. That should be competitive for a device running two screens throughout the day.

Samsung and Apple are racing to the same conclusion?

The Galaxy Wide Fold is tipped to land in July or August, right alongside the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. That puts it on store shelves just before Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, which is expected to arrive in September.

Apple’s entry into the space is worth watching closely. The foldable iPhone reportedly combines elements of an iPhone and an iPad Mini, with a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch inner display. It also reportedly uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, meaning both companies arrived at the same conclusion about what a foldable should look like. Apple’s version may offer an iPad-like interface with side-by-side app multitasking.

The tipster thinks 2026 will be the year the wide foldable segment finally gets crowded. Samsung and Apple could lead globally, while Huawei and another unnamed brand fight for dominance in China. That means you will have more choices than ever if you are shopping for a foldable this year, and the Wide Fold is Samsung’s opening move.
