Sir James Cleverly the new Shadow Housing Secretary has blasted Sir Keir Starmer over his “toxic” claim that there is “plenty of houses for asylum seekers.”
Sir James accused Starmer of being more interested in “finding accommodation for asylum seekers” than “hard working young people.”
Cleverly said he was “furious” when Starmer “blithely” claimed there is “plenty of houses” in the UK for asylum seekers.
There is rising numbers of homelessness many Brits cannot get on the housing ladder and are struggling to pay expensive rents, but Starmer told the Liaison Committee this week there is plenty of housing for asylum seekers.
There is currently around 1.3 million Brits on a waiting list for social housing, but yet illegal migrants come to the UK and are instantly given a roof over their heads, money, food, dental and all medical care needed skipping all the queues.

Starmer was asked by the Liaison Committee senior MPs as to why homeless Brits are being left behind as migrants are first inline.
Starmer reverted to blame the previous government for leaving tens of thousands of asylum seekers unprocessed, with nowhere to live, other than accommodation paid for by the taxpayer.”
The Prime Minister was then asked if there is insufficient housing, Starmer said, “Oh, there is lots of housing and many local authorities that can be used. We’re identifying where it can be used.”
Chair Meg Hillier told Starmer, “I have to say, in a number of our local authorities there isn’t a lot of spare housing available. If there were, then councils would be able to be dealing with it by now.”
Sir James told Times Radio, “I was furious, I genuinely couldn’t believe he said this, when the prime minister was at the Liaison Committee and blithely said, ‘Oh there are plenty of houses around the UK for asylum seekers.’
When there are people telling us and telling him that they’re struggling to get on the housing ladder and he dismisses their concerns in one line and once again demonstrates he is more interested in finding accommodation for asylum seekers than for hard-working young people here in the UK and that is toxic.
Tory MP Robert Jenrick said, “There are 1.3 million people on social housing waiting lists in England alone.
“But Keir Starmer believes there’s ‘lots of housing’ spare. That’s madness.”
