President Volodymyr Zelensky has said sanctions and diplomatic isolation is weakening Moscow and Vladimir Putin.

But talks between leaders “does not strengthen Ukraine” as there are so many talks and, in his opinion, “sometimes leaders” want to wrestle for leadership, the Kyiv Independent reports.

On 15 November the German Chancellor held a conversation with Putin for the first time in almost two years, he also condemned the Russian dictators war in Ukraine and urged him to withdraw his troops, this will fall on deaf ears.

“In Europe, it may happen that after one call, there may be a second, third, fourth, fifth… Because sometimes leaders want to (wrestle for) leadership. After that, there may be a wave of actual recognition of Putin,” Zelensky said.

“I believe that this does not strengthen Ukraine.”

“That’s my opinion. But, as I said, we have much more in common with Germany than differences.”

President Zelensky made a point of telling the German Chancellor that he does not support his decision to call Putin, however, we do have “more in common than differences” between Kyiv and Berlin.

“Let the Russian President not expect to have Ukraine alone. We are ready to support Ukraine to the extent necessary. In the current situation. I think this is a very important message,” Scholz said.

“Ukraine will be an independent state and will remain so,” he added.

Scholz also said that he does believe dialogue is required with Russia and his position on the war remains unchanged, he said the G20 summit is coming, and talks could take place on the various issues.
