The head of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz, said that the US President Doanld Trump and the Vice President JD Vance both deliberately “manufactured” the escalation against the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The meeting in the Oval Office was to sign a mineral deal between Washington and Kyiv and the arrogance of the two US politicians revealed their language being the same as Russia.

Speaking at press conference in Hamburg Merz said, “It was not a spontaneous reaction to interventions by Zelensky, but obviously a manufactured escalation in this meeting in the Oval Office.”

He said that he was “quite surprised, including by the mutual tone of the dialogue” which fits the US pattern that is emerging from Washington.

He added, “There is a certain sequence in a number of events in recent weeks and months, including the appearance of the American delegation in Munich at the security conference, and we are now seeing it from Washington.”

He warned that this is a wake-up call and Europe now needs to sort their own security policies and will have to a lot more.

He said, “I am in favour of preparing for the fact that in the coming years and decades we will have to do much, much more for our own security.”

The Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova wrote: “How Trump and Vance held back from hitting that scumbag is a miracle of restraint,” which is a similar language being used by some US politicians.

Friedrich Merz, leader of the CDU/CSU and the man set to be Germany’s next chancellor, will now likely look to form a coalition government with the Social Democrats.
