Christmas is just weeks away, and many are still struggling to find the perfect present for their loved ones—or indeed, themselves—but new research has identified the most affordable cars to buy this festive season.

The study, by car parts marketplace Ovoko, analysed over 1,000 cars currently listed on AutoTrader to calculate the average listing price of each one; a ranking was created to determine which brands and models offer the best value for money.

The cheapest car to buy right now is the Fiat Grande Punto, with 108 currently listed on AutoTrader. The average listing value is £1,398.15.

Following closely behind the Italian carmaker is Peugeot with its 207 model. There are currently 399 listings for the car and the average listing value is £1,482.46.

The Ford Fusion is ranked third. The average listing value is £1,844.66, and 206 models are available for purchase.

The Peugeot 207 CC and Vauxhall Zafira placed fourth and fifth respectively. The brand’s second appearance on the list, Peugeot’s 207 CC has 121 listings, with an average listing value of £2,053.72. Meanwhile, Vauxhall’s offering has over 400 more listings for a total of 523, with an average listing price of £2,238.05.

Other cars in the ranking include the Peugeot 107, which ranks sixth with 584 listings. The average listing price for that particular model is £2,258.56. Jaguar ranks seventh with its X-Type. There are 161 listings for an average listing price of £2,273.29.

In eighth and ninth place respectively are the Vauxhall Agila and the Audi A4 Cabriolet. The Agila model has 171 listings on AutoTrader with an average listing price of £2,356.73. The A4 Cabriolet has an average listing price of £2,415.18, with 112 listings of the model for sale.

In tenth place is the Suzuki Alto. The manufacturer’s only appearance in the top 10 has 238 listings and an average listing price of £2,474.79.

The brand that appears most frequently in the ranking is Peugeot; all of its vehicles appear in the top five.

VP of Growth at Ovoko, Vytas Palovis said, “Being able to see which cars have lower price points might be helpful for that parent treating their child after passing their driving test, or someone simply buying themselves a Christmas gift.

“The Fiat Grande Punto at just £1,398.15 is an absolute steal! And, with there being 108 listed, there are plenty of opportunities to get one in time for Christmas.”
