It has been confirmed that three British citizens have been killed in Gaza following an Israeli airstrike on Monday evening.
The charity that the Britons worked for has confirmed the details on Tuesday and in total seven aid workers were all killed in the Israeli airstrike.
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Tuesday that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) killed all the aid workers “unintentionally.”
He said, “Unfortunately, in the last day there was a tragic case of our forces unintentionally hitting innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”
Three British nationals, Polish, American Canadian dual citizen, a Palestinian and an Australian were all killed in the airstrike.
Celebrity chef José Andrés who founded the charity, World Central Kitchen has stopped all work in Gaza following the airstrike.
World Central Kitchen (WCK) who are a non-profit organisation (NGO) said that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) carried out the air strike even though they were “co-ordinating” their movements with the Israeli military.
WCK chief executive Erin Gore said in a statement: “This is not only an attack against WCK, this is an attack on humanitarian organisations showing up in the most dire of situations where food is being used as a weapon of war.
“This is unforgivable.
“I am heartbroken and appalled that we – World Central Kitchen and the world – lost beautiful lives today because of a targeted attack by the IDF.
“The love they had for feeding people, the determination they embodied to show that humanity rises above all and the impact they made in countless lives will forever be remembered and cherished.”
The Foreign Secretary has demanded a “full transparent explanation” from Israel following an air strike in Gaza that killed seven aid workers, one is a British.
The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called for Israel to “investigate what happened” as he wants answers.
Sunak said on Tuesday that he is “shocked and saddened” over the reports that seven aid workers have been killed overnight in Gaza.
The Prime Minister said, “We are asking Israel to investigate what happened urgently, because clearly there are questions that need to be answered.
“My thoughts are with their friends and family.
“They are doing fantastic work bringing alleviation to the suffering that many are experiencing in Gaza.
“They should be praised and commended for what they are doing.
“They need to be allowed to do that work unhindered and it is incumbent on Israel to make sure they can do that.”
