U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Tehran, threatening to destroy key oil wells and power plants on Kharg Island if the Strait of Hormuz is not “immediately open for business.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as Iran’s “new and more reasonable regime.”

Trump warned that further damage would be inflicted if a deal is not reached promptly. Trump reiterated his threat to target the strategically vital fuel hub on Kharg Island, which handles the bulk of Iran’s crude oil exports.

These remarks come as global oil prices soar and tensions rise in the Gulf, with markets closely monitoring for any escalation that could further disrupt the world’s energy supply. Analysts have warned that a strike on Kharg Island would have severe geopolitical and economic consequences, potentially provoking a wider regional conflict.

Trump’s post underscores the heightened stakes in the ongoing confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime passage critical to global oil flows, signalling that the U.S. is prepared to consider direct military action to keep it open.

Trump wrote on social media: “The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran.

“Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched’.

This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47-year Reign of Terror.’ Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

On Friday Iran announced that it has mobilised over a million troops and volunteer fighters to counter a potential US ground invasion, warning that any such attack would lead to a “historic hell for American forces.”

Officials in Tehran reported a recent surge in recruits, with many young men volunteering to join the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The state-linked Tasnim News Agency cited a “well-informed military source” stating that more than a million individuals have already organised for combat roles, along with a “huge influx” of new enlistment requests.

The source said: “America wants to open the Strait through suicide and self-destruction – that’s fine.

We are prepared for them to act on their suicide strategy, and for the Strait to remain closed.”
