Russian media has mocked US President Donald Trump for his handling of the conflict in Iran, suggesting that the war has left him in a precarious position and weakened Washington’s overall global standing.

On Wednesday, the daily newspaper Kommersant published a harsh analysis, stating, “Trump wanted to strangle Tehran, but instead, he has tightened the noose around his own neck.”

Other media outlets linked to Moscow echoed this sentiment, depicting Trump as overreaching in the Middle East and entangling unrelated countries in the aftermath.

Russian Editor Steven Rosenberg translated the Kommersant article as: “He messed up, and destroyed everything around him, but he wants someone else to clear the rubble and create a new structure.

“This is, of course, all about him, Donald Trump. The US president pinned Iran to the wall and practically forced it, for its own survival, to block such a key global transport artery as the Strait of Hormuz.

The paper added that Trump has done a “strange flip-flop” as he is demanding other countries help with the Strait of Hormuz.

The paper said: “Such a formulation of the question is, of course, phenomenal cheek,” this is a “permanent political characteristic” of the US President.

According to Kommersant, the escalating conflict has not only bolstered Iran but also weakened the positions of Kyiv and its allies.

“Confrontation with Tehran has only strengthened President Trump’s intention to distance himself from Kyiv, whose support distracts the US from its main battle,” the paper wrote.

Analysts in Moscow suggested that ongoing hostilities could affect American weapons supplies to Ukraine.

The commentary marks the latest example of Russian media using international crises to criticise US leadership, framing the conflict as evidence of American miscalculation in foreign policy.
