The US President has called Russia’s missile strike on Sumy a “mistake” by did not explain why.
On Sunday Russia fired two ballistic missiles which was clearly a planned attack on civilians and infrastructure.
Trump’s Special Envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg wrote on X, “Today’s Palm Sunday attack by Russian forces on civilian targets in Sumy crosses any line of decency.
“There are scores of civilian dead and wounded.”
“Today, as a result of the missile strike, there are many dead… The enemy struck again at the peaceful population,” the acting mayor of Sumy Artem Kobzar wrote on social media.

At least 34 civilians have been killed and around 117 are injured including children, the attack has been called a war crime.
Donald Trump was asked about the Russian attack, he said, “I think it was terrible, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it’s a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing… for that war to have started is an abuse of power.”
He added, “This is [former President Joe] Biden’s war. This is not my war; I’ve been here for a very short period of time. This is a war that was under Biden. He gave them billions and billions of dollars,” he then said that Biden should not have “allowed” Vladimir Putin’s war to ever start.
Trump continued, “That war is a shame. Millions of people are dead that should be alive. Cities are being destroyed all over Ukraine. The whole culture is gone. It’s very certainly very severely hurt.
“You know the chapels, the churches, the spirals, all of the things they had in Ukraine were among the most beautiful anywhere in the world. Most of them were knocked down and blown up into a million pieces.”
Trump claimed that if he was President the war would had never started, he said, “(M)illions of people would be alive except for the fact that the election were rigged because that war would have never started and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin never would have started that war.”
He added, “I’m just trying to get it stopped so that we can save a lot of lives. They happen to be Ukrainian and Russian lives, but all I want to do is get it stopped.”
