The UK’s chief of MI6 the secret intelligence service (SIS) has warned there is “no evidence” that Vladimir Putin wants peace in Ukraine.

Sir Richard Moore said the Russian dictator is “stringing us along” as he has failed at every turn to broker a peace deal as he is doing nothing but spreading his “lies to the world.”

Come 24 February 2026 Russia’s full-scale war with Ukraine will enter its fourth year and there is no signs of any peace deal.

The UK’s spy chief said there is “absolutely no evidence” that Putin wants peace as he will “impose his imperial will by all means at his disposal.”

Sir Richard will step down at the end of September after five years as Britain’s spy chief, he said that Putin “cannot succeed.”

He added, “Bluntly, Putin has bitten off more than he can chew.

“He thought he was going to win an easy victory. But he – and many others – underestimated the Ukrainians.”

The Russian despot “has sought to convince the world that Russian victory is inevitable, but he lies, he lies to the world, he lies to his people, perhaps he even lies to himself.”

But Putin is “mortgaging his country’s future for his own personal legacy and a distorted version of history” and the ongoing Ukrainian war is “accelerating this decline.”

The US President previously claimed he can end the war, Donald Trump has said he has been “let down” by Putin.

He said, “I’m very honoured to tell you that we’ve solved seven wars, seven wars, wars that were unsolvable, wars that couldn’t be negotiated or done, the US has done seven of them.

“The one that I thought would be easiest would be because of my relationship with President Putin, but he’s let me down. He’s really let me down.

“Was going to be Russia and Ukraine, but we’ll see how that turns out. I thought it might be among the easiest of the group.”
