A former senior NATO adviser and MPs are warning that the UK is now no longer protected by the US and Britain must prepare for war.
For many decades America has provided security to the UK this is now “no longer valid” because Donald Trump is now only committed to protecting the US first.
According to Civitas who published a damning report warned that the should NATOs Article 5 be triggered the US will now “no longer” respond as under the US President he has put the “final nail in the coffin.”
The report warned the international rules-based order is now “effectively dead.”

Civitas warned Britain must now “prepare for the worst; that is, we must prepare for the fact that the US may no longer be a reliable ally and may well become a separate actor, pursuing a narrow understanding of its national interests.
“Today’s US is not only no longer acting within the framework and constrains of its traditional alliances, it is already acting in a manner which can be perceived as being contrary to the interests of some of its allies.
“President Trump, it seems is even looking towards Russia as a potential business partner; the Kremlin and the White House appear to be quietly normalising commercial and diplomatic relations.”
Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, a former Nato secretary-general and the chair of Labour’s recent defence review, said, “The UK is under-prepared and under attack,” he wrote in the foreword.
The report gave stern warning about the British government saying there is “no sense of real urgency.”
The authors of the report failed to mention that “in many respects we are on the potential cusp of war and that kinetic war may come to us when we least expect it, sooner rather than later.”
Allies have real concerns over the Royal Navy’s lack of ships, the British Army has been hollowed out over the years as there is just 70,000 troops which is a major concern and the Ministry of Defence has a £28 billion black hole over the coming years.
The Royal Air Force does not have enough fighter jets and for the armoured division there is not enough supplies and the British Army would be in a possible position to deploy an armoured division of 25,000 for a length of time as the UK more often than not asks the US for extra assets.
To highlight how correct Lord Robertson of Port Ellen is the government was warned in 2024, in a paper published by the New Bletchley Network former security chiefs have warned that the UK must “genuinely prepare for war” to be a credible deterrent.
The government was strongly advised to reverse 20 years of hollowing out the armed forces which has ultimately led to diminished fighting power.
Former security chiefs are calling for a New Model Army that will turn the British Army into a credible and respected force, which comes after the Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warned that the UK is now in a “pre-war” phase.
The report added, “Our land forces and reserves could be said to have fallen far below national critical mass.
“This must be reversed and the relationship between size and technology must be better understood and articulated.”
The report continued, “We have to be bold and make difficult, sometimes unpopular, decisions if we are able to deliver credible fighting power within realistic budgets and to meet the time imperative.”
Lord Admiral West summed it up in one sentence, “We have to be bold and make difficult, sometimes unpopular, decisions if we are able to deliver credible fighting power within realistic budgets and to meet the time imperative.”
