Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Russia’s Tatarstan region on Tuesday morning.

Tatarstan is more than 1,200 kilometres from the Ukrainian border which is one the furthest attacks to take place deep inside Russia.

The Ukrainian spy agency said the drone attack has caused “significant damage” to the oil refinery and Russia has said that six people were injured.

Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of the Tatarstan region in western Russia claimed that Ukrainian drones had attacked Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk towns.

Minnikhanov claimed that there was no serious damage and the “technological process of the enterprises” have not been disrupted.

A senior Russian MP, Andrei Kartapolov, head of the defence committee of the State Duma said the drone attacks will stop only when they have taken Kyiv.
