Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is just “one step away” from a “radioactive catastrophe” as the nuclear power plant has been bombed three times in 24 hours

Ukrainian authorities near to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) began distributing iodine tablets over fears there could be a “radiation leak” from the facility.

However, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that it was Ukraine who shelled the nuclear power plant.

Ukraine responded by blaming Russia for a shelling attack on the nuclear power plant and the plant’s operator Energoatom warned there are now risks of “hydrogen leakage” and “sputtering of radioactive substances.”

In a statement, the company said, “Due to the presence of the Russian military, their weapons, equipment and explosives at the power plant, there are serious risks for the safe operation of the ZNPP.”

They warned, “As a result of periodic shelling, the infrastructure of the power plant has been damaged, there are risks of hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances, and the fire hazard is high.”

“Ukraine calls on the world community to take immediate measures to force Russia to liberate the ZNPP and transfer the power plant to the control of our country for the sake of the security of the whole world,” Energoatom added.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that the situation around the nuclear power plant is “very risky” and that “any action” would place it “one step away from a catastrophe.”

Last week the facility was disconnected from the grid for the “first time ever” and then Energoatom where able to get it back on line.

Ukraine’s nuclear power agency dais in a statement, “The nuclear workers of Zaporizhzhia power plant are real heroes!

“They tirelessly and firmly uphold the nuclear and radiation safety of Ukraine and the whole of Europe on their shoulders.”
