General Zaluzhnyi is known as the “Iron General” and he is the likely most popular candidate who could take the top job in Kyiv, he is also a person who Vladimir Putin should fear as he has a no-nonsense approach to enemies of Ukraine.

He is held in high regard amongst many Ukrainian’s after his heroic defending of Kyiv in 2022 when Putin started his full-scale war against Ukraine, he was then replaced and assigned as the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK in 2024.

Kyiv Post Correspondent Jason Jay Smart said that “sources indicate that he gave the go-ahead to his team, over a month ago, to start planning his campaign.”

Katie Livingstone a freelance journalist said her sources said that he Ukrainian opposition MP Viktoria Siumar will take charge in any campaign with Torop.

“This is not mere speculation. The former Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine, now ambassador to the UK, has effectively started his campaign,” Livingstone claimed.

Torop told NV, “At this moment, I am assisting Valerii Zaluzhnyi with media relations. Nothing more.”

However, despite many inside sources providing detailed information, Torop was quick to deny the rumour that General Zaluzhnyi is running for President, but we will all know for certain in the coming weeks and months.

Torop told the Voice of Ukraine, “There is no talk of any campaign headquarters.

“Valerii Zaluzhnyi has stated his position more than once, and as far as I know, it has not changed: while the war continues, we need to work to preserve the country, not think about elections.”
