Ukrainian spy chief warns Russia’s ‘offensive operation’ is underway, but ‘will be exhausted by spring’

Ukraine’s spy chief has said that the Russian “offensive operation” is currently underway and he predicts by early spring it “will be completely exhausted.”

Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Main Intelligence Agency (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that the offensive has been underway for about two and a half months now.

Over the past year and a half Russian troops have been complaining that they are not getting and rest and recuperation away from the frontlines and thousands of Vladimir Putin’s troops are worn out.

There has been fierce battles near to the Ukrainian town of Avdiyivka and Russian force have made “some progress” in the region.

Budanov said, said in an interview broadcast on the United News, Yedyni Novyny, “I can tell you, the offensive operation of the Russian Federation is underway now. It began in November 2023.

“As of now, it has been going on for 2.5 months. You can see the results yourselves. To say that they are great is definitely not true.

“Unfortunately for us, they have some progress in the fields, near Avdiyivka, the one that happened. But this is not what they expected.”

Budanov said that Russia want to reach the barrier line along the Chorny Zherebets River in Kharkiv region and also the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, he added, “there is nothing even close to this.”

The Ukrainian spy chief said, “But their offensive will continue. Approximately in early spring, it will be completely exhausted.”

He refused to say what 2024 looks like for the Ukrainian troops, he said that this is a question that should be directed to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Budanov added, “As well as according to the rules of any game, as they say: You make a move, the opponent makes a move.

“It’s the opponent’s turn now. It will end, and, I think, ours will begin.”
