The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned the continued shelling around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia must “stop immediately.”

The head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi said that which ever side is responsible for the shelling it must stopped and blasted that this is “extremely disturbing,” and it is “completely unacceptable.”

Grossi has once again renewed his urgent appeal to both Kyiv and Moscow to agree and implement a nuclear safety and security zone around the plant for the protection of Europe.

The IAEA director added, “I’m not giving up until this zone has become a reality. As the ongoing apparent shelling demonstrates, it is needed more than ever.”

The IAEA warned that powerful explosions shook the area where the nuclear facility is located and more than a dozens blasts were reported.

The IAEA team said that from their windows they saw a series of powerful blasts and that there was some damage to buildings at the nuclear power plant.

Since the start of the war on 24 February both Russia and Ukraine have been blaming each other for the attacks.
