A US official has confirmed that Israel has informed them a military ground invasion of Lebanon could start imminently, The Washington Post reports.

The ground operation is likely to involve a few thousands Israeli Defence Force troops, tanks armoured vehicles and the air force will continue with precision strikes on Hezbollah strongholds.

The ground invasion is thought to be on a far smaller scale than was seen in 2006 which will be designed to finish Hezbollah once and for all.

The US embassy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut are trying to organised with airlines to get their citizens out of the war torn country.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Iran this is a “pivotal moment” in history and they are “closer to the abyss,” Tehran has not responded as yet.

Netanyahu warned, “Every day, you see a regime that subjugates you, make fiery speeches about defending Lebanon, defending Gaza.

Yet every day, that regime plunges our region deeper into darkness and deeper into war.”

In reference to the killing of the Hezbollah leader and the top team he said, “Every day, their puppets are eliminated. Ask Mohammed Deif. Ask Nasrallah.

There is nowhere in the Middle East Israel cannot reach.

“There is nowhere we will not go to protect our people and protect our country.

“With every passing moment, the regime is bringing you – the noble Persian people – closer to the abyss.”

Sky News reported, Netanyahu said that the “Majority of Iranians” fully knows their “regime doesn’t care a whit about them.

If it did care, if it cared about you, it would stop wasting billions of dollars on futile wars across the Middle East. It would start improving your lives.

“When Iran is finally free and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think – everything will be different.

“Our two ancient peoples, the Jewish people and the Persian people, will finally be at peace.

“Our two countries, Israel and Iran, will be at peace.”
