In the Scottish Highlands wind speeds of 122mph have been recorded at the Cairngorm summit northeast, Scotland.

Met Office had previously expected Storm Floris to bring wind speeds of up to 90mph and the Highlands was hit with 109mph gusts.

There is now at least 22,500 homes and businesses without power in Scotland and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), said the storm has damaged the network.

Storm Floris has also left around 10,000 homes in Northern Ireland without power since 10.30 on Monday morning affecting businesses and farms.

In a statement, ESB Networks said: “Yellow level winds associated with Storm Floris have led to a number of power outages across the country this morning, predominantly in the North West region.

“The impact on the electricity network has been modest and in line with previous such wind warnings.

“As of 10.30am, approximately 10,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country are without power.

“ESB Networks crews are mobilised in impacted areas and responding to power outages where safe to do so.”

SSEN said in a statement on Monday afternoon, “As of 2.15pm this afternoon, power has been restored to 5,500 customers.

“Work is ongoing to reconnect a further 22,500 properties, with particular impact being seen in the Highlands, Moray, and in Aberdeenshire.”

There is an amber weather warning in place for millions across Scotland which could bring danger to life or injuries along the coast.

Aviation firm Cirium said that at least 68 flights were cancelled on Monday, and the worst affected airports was Belfast City and Aberdeen.
