The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed the nation saying that Ukrainian forces has captured the whole of a Russian town which has a population of some 5,000 people.
Ukrainian forces have captured the town of Sudzha on Thursday which is some 63 miles southwest of Kursk city in the region.
The town of Sudzha has a gas distribution station based there which is where Vladimir Putin makes a “significant portion of revenue” to finance his war.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed his troops have also captured more than 80 villages in the Kursk Oblast region and will probably set their sights on capturing Kursk city.

Sudzha is around 6 miles from the Ukrainian border and the and the city of Kursk is 53 miles northeast of the captured town.
Syrskyi who is Ukraine’s most senior commander said they have set up a military office in the Kursk region of Russia after capturing 82 villages and the town of Sudzha after 10 days.
RFI România reports that by Ukraine controlling Russian territory this will “jeopardise Russia’s claim” of being “superior in any peace talks.

RFI România wrote, “If Ukraine is able to maintain control of the gas distribution station in Sudzha, this would deprive Russia of a significant portion of the revenue it is using to finance the war.
“Furthermore, Ukrainian control of part of Russia’s territory would also jeopardise Russia’s claim to be militarily superior in any peace talks.
“From this point of view, the offensive considerably strengthens Ukraine’s negotiating position. Provided Ukraine can keep it going.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops have captured the Russian town of Sudzha in the Kursk region.

However Germany’s Handelsblatt warns, “On the one hand, the advance widens the front, which can hardly be held anyway. It also ties up Russian forces, at least temporarily.
“But the Ukrainian soldiers who are now fighting in Russia are absent from sections of the front that threaten to become porous. … However, the advance is also risky for a second reason.
“The West has authorised the use of weapons it has supplied against military targets in the Russian border region. But should German Leopard tanks fall into the hands of the Russians during the attack, Vladimir Putin would happily use them as evidence for his narrative that NATO is actually waging war against Russia.”
