The vegan-friendly company, which is backed by celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Serena Williams, said several customers reported gastrointestinal issues and received notice to discontinue the use of the product immediately.
Daily Harvest also launched an investigation to learn more about the root cause in response to the complaints. “We simultaneously launched an investigation with internal and external experts throughout our supply chain and in accordance with regulatory procedures. We will share more information as soon as it’s available,” Daily Harvest says.
Although the company is taking action to prevent further sickened customers, several people have turned to social media to voice their personal experiences and frustration with their responses. In an Instagram video by @lukewesleypearson, Luke Wesley recounted the two instances he consumed the product. He first experienced extreme stomach and gastrointestinal issues immediately after eating them. The second time, he faced more severe symptoms and hospitalization.
